Mental-health services for asylum-seekers in Birmingham and Solihull
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust has agreed on the following referral procedure for destitute asylum seekers:
- agreed that destitute asylum seekers with mental health problems needing the care of secondary services can access care at their local community mental health team (CMHT) if they have an address (these are geographically distributed throughout the city).
- those without an address would be seen for assessment and crisis resolution help by the homeless mental health team.
- the referral routes for both of these services are currently only via a general practitioner.
